조각공원 ‘산:들’

조각공원 산:들은 파빌리온의 앞마당과 각 주제전 전시공간 게이트, 풀, 홀의 외부를 연결하여 조성된 조각공원이다. 강원 작가의 조각 작품들로 이루어진 조각공원은 본 전시와 유기적으로 연결되며, 각각의 작품들이 장소 곳곳에 자리 잡고 있어 마치 산이 들어서 있는 들판과 같은 인상을 제공한다. 전시된 작품들은 주변 풍경을 변화시켜 담아내거나 투영하며 때로는 그 자체로 관람객들에게 메세지를 전달하는 사유의 매개체가 된다.

조각공원 초입에서 마주하게 되는 조병섭 작가의 Shape-210920은 자연의 근원적 형태와 사물의 본질에 대한 작가의 철학이 반영된 유기적 형태의 구조물로, 지면의 상승부에 위치하여 강한 존재감을 드러내며 전시를 관람하기 위해 이곳을 찾은 관람객의 동선을 자연스럽게 공원 내부로 유도한다. 곧이어 강신영 작가의 생성공간은 스테인리스스틸을 레이저 커팅하여 만들어낸 자연의 요소들을 입체적으로 구성한 것으로 눈길을 끝다.

심병건 작가의 Pressed Drawing의 매끈한 스테인리스스틸 표면은 평창송어축제장 풍경을 반영하며 한쪽으로 무심하게 구겨져 분절된 표면들은 그 풍경을 조각적으로 담으며 관람객에게 주변을 인식하는 다른 시선을 제공한다. 주변의풍경과 관람객 그리고 다른 작품들까지 반사하며 반영하는 이 작품은 그 자체로 산이며, 주변의 산이라 부를 수 있는 다른 작품들을 아울러 산/산들을 이룬다.

이태수 작가의 Stone Composition 005의 바위는 조각공원 내 평지의 열린공간에 배치되었다. 극도의 사실적인 표현으로 사실주의의 허구성을 역설적으로 드러내는 이 작품은 관람객의 감각을 자극하여 새로운 심상을 불러일으킨다.

끝으로 문유미 작가의 Cactus는 무거운 짐을 짊어지고 오아시스를 찾아 떠나는 방랑자 낙타에 작가 스스로를 빗댄 작품으로, 오아시스는 작가가 추구하는 삶의 가치와 이상향을 의미한다. 작가가 갈망하는 이상향으로서 행복한 가정을 나타내는 작은 집을 등에 얹은 낙타는 파빌리온 주변에 위치한다.작품들은 주변 풍경을 변화시켜 담아내거나 투영하며 때로는 그 자체로 관람객들에게 메세지를 전달하는 사유의 매개체가 된다.

Sculpture Park San:Deul

The Sculpture Park San:Deul is a sculpture park created by connecting the front garden of the Pavilion and the outside space of exhibition spots - the Gate, the Pool and the Hall. The park, decorated with sculptures by local Gangwon-do artists, is organically linked to this exhibition, and it gives the impression that it is a field with a mountain, as sculptures are located at various spots around the space. The sculptures on display reflect the original or transformed surrounding landscapes, while sometimes serving as a medium of thought itself, one that conveys ideas to the visitors.

The smooth stainless-steel surface of Pressed Drawing by Shim Byung Gun, which awaits visitors near the entrance of the park, reflects the landscape of the space used for the Pyeongchang Trout Festival. Meanwhile, the side of the work’s carelessly crumpled surface fragments the landscape, thereby providing visitors with another perspective on their surroundings. Reflecting the nearby landscape, the visitors, and the other sculptures on its surface, Pressed Drawing seems like a mountain itself, and it joins with other works around the venue that can be called mountains as well. The rock of Stone Composition 005 by Lee Tae Soo is located at an open space along a trail in the Sculpture Park. By paradoxically revealing the fictionality of realism through its extremely realistic expressions, the work stimulates visitors’ senses, eliciting new images. Space of Generation and Space of Generation: Germination by Kang Shin Young catch visitors’ eyes as compositions of natural elements created by laser-cutting stainless steel. Shape-210920 by Cho Byung Sup is an organically formed structure that reflects the artist’s philosophy on the original form of nature and the nature of objects. It has a strong presence given its location in an elevated area, one which naturally guides visitors into the park. Finally, Cactus by Moon Yu Mi is a work where the artist likens herself to a wandering camel that sets off with a heavy burden to discover an oasis. The oasis in this work refers to the value of life and the ideal place that the artist pursues. The camel that carries on its back a small house, a representation of a happy home and the ideal place the artist is longing for, is located near the Pavilion.
